March started off with a long hike for Caroline, it was the Rees Dart track again, but this time with an English friend, as Suzie held the fort at home! The weather was glorious as we headed off down the Rees Valley, under the snow capped slopes of Mt Earnslaw. During the second day we headed over the Rees saddle and down to the spectacularly sited Dart Hut. We took a side trip up to Cascade Saddle to look down upon the Wanaka side of the Matutukituki River, before heading back down the Dart River over the last 2 days. What an adventure! As the Autumn colours start to appear, the mornings have a definite nip in the air and this can only mean one thing… the annual Wanaka Agricultural and Pastoral Show (A&P Show). One of the biggest A&P Shows in the country, it’s a highlight for locals and visitors from far and wide. The range of stallholders and businesses is amazing, but of course the real highlight is the Jack Russell race where 77 little dogs chase a hare down the course and chaos ensues! www.wanakashow.co.nz
Suzie and 3 friends organised to play 72 holes of golf (4 rounds) in aid of our local ambulance service, Wanaka St John. They started at daybreak and played for 10 hours, lots of people came to support them and donated money to the cause. In total they raised $4500 which is a fantastic achievement
Again this month we have welcomed New Zealanders from all around the country and it’s great to to see them spending more time in our little corner of the South Island, many of them comment on the lovely clear blue skies and settled weather of Central Otago!
Start thinking about your Winter ski holidays, we’ve got a special deal on our 2 bedroom apartment, only $1995 for 7 nights for 4 people. Use code ski2021
