It’s a question we are asked every day – “where do I get the best coffee!?”. Fear not, we are very blessed in Wānaka to have a plethora of amazing locations to indulge in your favourite brew. The location of our properties serves our guests well in the pursuit of their favourite beverage, just a short walk from your accommodation to some of the best coffee spots in town. One thing to note is that most cafes in Wānaka have adopted a single-use coffee cup free environment. We have our own Kinnect Wanaka reusable cups for guests to use, so bring your cup or take your time and sit and sip.
Here are a few of our favourite coffee spots:
The Good Spot is a coffee caravan a few minutes’ walk from The Apartment and they certainly live up to their name! They serve locally roasted organic Venus coffee and make arguably the best cheese scones in town. The Good Spot also offers wholesome lunch options and tasty treats made right in their funky little caravan.
Heading into town, one of the first cafes you will find is Scroggin. Centrally located next to the Wānaka Hotel, Scroggin uses Flight Coffee from Wellington and with over a dozen options on the coffee menu alone, it is certain you will find what you are looking for. We would highly recommend you choose something from their menu to go with your coffee – whether dine-in or to go, they even offer boxed lunches to take away for your day’s adventures!
The next recommendation on our list, and in a fantastic location opposite the lake, is Big Fig. A popular spot with locals and visitors alike, Big Fig serves AllPress coffee with a smile. One of the first cafés in Wānaka to go SUC-free (Single-Use Cup-Free), bring your reusable cup or purchase a fully refundable Again Again cup and enjoy one of the best coffees in town. Find out more about the SUC-free Wanaka project here.
From your accommodation, wander down Brownston Street and you will find Little Black Coffee, a converted container and part of our unique Food Truck complex next to Bullock Creek. Specialising in coffee and bagels (a great combo), and offering the Peoples Coffee (another Wellington Roastery), Little Black Coffee is well worth a visit.
Lastly, and only just a little further along Brownston Street past the New World supermarket, is The Coffee Shack. A funky converted garage with great people, good tunes and popular with the locals, The Coffee Shack serves Flight Coffee any way you like it. It is only open on weekdays, however, so head down and say hi for your weekday fix.
Below Caroline enjoys a coffee at The Apartment – a great place with a great view for your morning brew! Enjoy!
