Spring in Wānaka is beautiful, with blue skies and comfortable temperatures. The weather is perfect for activities like biking, water sports, hiking, and fishing and yes you can still ski or snowboard as the ski resorts are open until late September/early October so there really is something for everyone! Spring skiing is super enjoyable, especially for families with young children or beginners as the temperatures are mild, the sun is out and the snow is soft.
Spring is a great time to get out into nature for a hike. Whether you are looking for a day walk, or a multi-day overnighter either before or after you stay with us, we can offer many recommendations for hikes in the area as it is how we spend most of our time in this beautiful region when we are not hosting guests. Have a chat to Caroline or Suzie and we will happily share our favourite hikes with you.
Another activity perfect for spring is a visit to the Wānaka Lavender Farm. We enjoy visiting the farm at all times of the year; however, spring is particularly special with the cute baby animals and 20acres of display gardens coming into bloom. The Lavender Farm is located just 5 minutes’ drive out of Wānaka, and also offers garden games, homemade teas and ice-creams, and a gift shop stocked with lavender products.
What is the perfect treat to accompany the warm spring weather? Ice-cream or Gelato! Black Peak Gelato sell home-made gelato and sorbets using local produce and Patagonia produces award-winning artisan ice cream, sorbet and frozen yoghurt, inspired by their South American and Italian roots. Both are located across the road from the lakefront, so after your day out exploring (or whenever, really), grab yourself a cool sweet treat and enjoy it on the lakefront admiring that stunning Wānaka view!
