Puzzling World
Did you know we have our very own Leaning Tower of Wānaka? You’ll find it at Puzzling World, a popular local attraction offering a variety of interactive brain-testing exhibits, illusion rooms, a cafe and a great outdoor maze to challenge/lose yourself in!
National Transport & Toy Museum
Located at the Wānaka Airport, visit one of the world’s largest private collections of vehicles, aircraft, and toys. You may need more than one rainy day to get through the 600 vehicles, 20 aircraft and 60,000 toys they have on display. Their collection includes classic cars, motorcycles, fire appliances, military vehicles, buses, trucks, tractors, construction gear and boats. A great day out.
Cinemas
Wānaka has not one, but two cinemas, each offering a unique movie experience. Cinema Paradiso isa classic movie theatre with all the state-of-the-art facilities you would expect, but with the unique touch of comfortable sofas or even an old Morris Minor as your choice of seating! A warm homemade cookie at intermission is a must have.
Ruby’s Cinema & Bar is a boutique style cinema where they transport you back to the days when going to the cinema was an event. Dimmed lights, velvet covered walls, delicious cocktails and impeccable service and offering all the latest blockbuster movies, Ruby’s is one of Wānaka’s finest entertainment venues.
Tasting beer, wine and spirits
Central Otago is famous for fantastic wine. Take a tour with Wānaka Wine Tours, or if you are happy to self-drive, make sure to include Rippon Vineyard, Maude, Aitkens Folly or Paddons Paddock on your list. The Cardrona Distillery is well worth a visit. Take a tour and sample the award-winning gin “The Source” as well as handcrafted Single Malt Whisky, Vodka and Liqueurs.If beer is more your beverage of choice, a visit to one or all of our local craft beer bars is highly recommended.
B.Effect Brewery, Rhyme & Reason, Ground Up Brewing and Wānaka Beerworks all offer tastings with a view, where you can watch the brewers at work.
